Nyrstar to Cut Zinc Production by 25% at Hobart Operations
Economy - Finance 14-03-2025

Nyrstar will reduce production by 25% at its Hobart zinc operations in Australia starting from April 2025. This decision follows a thorough and comprehensive review and is a direct response to deteriorating market conditions and financial losses faced by Nyrstar Australia.

The Hobart zinc smelter, considered by Nyrstar as one of the largest in the world, has an annual production capacity of approximately 260,000 tons. According to a Reuters survey, analysts expect the global zinc market to see a surplus of 147,000 tons this year, partly due to the ramp-up of new mines.
